As we move through 2026, we wanted to share where we are and where your support has helped us make a difference.
By the Numbers
So far in 2026, Longleaf Animal Rescue has:
Today, we have 50 animals in foster homes across North Carolina. While many are waiting for their forever families, several are hospice or sanctuary animals who will remain with us for the rest of their lives, receiving the comfort, dignity, and medical care they deserve.
If you've followed us recently, you've seen that our rescue rarely gets an "easy" case. From suspected cruelty survivors like Phoenix to medically fragile puppies, blind dogs, seniors, and animals requiring specialized veterinary care, our mission has become providing hope where others see impossible odds.
That work continues next week, when seven Longleaf animals are scheduled for surgery. From orthopedic procedures to amputations, dental surgeries, spays, and other life-changing operations, our veterinary partners continue to give these animals a second chance. Every surgery represents another opportunity for a dog or cat to live pain-free and eventually find a loving home.
Longleaf Animal Rescue is entirely volunteer-run. Every foster home, every transport, every fundraising post, every adoption application, every vet appointment, and every late-night emergency happens because people choose to step up.
Whether you've donated $5, shared one of our posts, fostered an animal, volunteered at an event, adopted, or simply cheered us on - you've been part of every one of these success stories.
Looking Ahead
There is still so much work to do.
We know more medical cases will come. More seniors will need a soft place to land. More hospice animals will need someone willing to love them through their final chapter. We'll keep saying yes whenever we can.
